Overall health is so important living with diabetes. With that said, things happen. Life happens and it can create all kinds of emotions. The thing about diabetes is pretty much everything can effect it. Lets say you are running late for work so you are speeding, you don’t want to be late for that meeting or tardy for school and you are stressing! Well that causes you heart rate to go up which causes that lovely hormone called cortisol to go up. Cortisol is your main stress hormone, and it works with a certain part of your brain to control your mood, motivation and fear. Which also causes your blood sugar to go up and we all know that is not good.
So a few things I do to quickly get out of that “state”…
– I slow my breathing down. I take slow deep breaths and it helps calm your central nervous system.
– I tell myself “I’m exactly where I am meant to be. And it’s more important I get to where I need to be safely.”
– If that doesn’t work I put on one of my favorite songs and jam!
These things might sound completely crazy, but don’t knock it till you try it. It becomes mind over matter and by the time you get to your destination you are in a better place emotionally and mentally to handle the day. Your energy will be more positive and it makes for a much better day overall.
I have adapted meditation, mindset, an movement as my daily rituals. Clean eating and spending as much time in nature have been my best medicine. Except for my insulin of course.😉
